MICRO

Early-stage validation grant for entrepreneurs testing business assumptions.

Eligibility

Founders actively moving their companies forward by validating assumptions and developing a business model. Pre-product-market-fit stage.

15 grants awarded from 338 applications (4.4% acceptance). 10 of 15 recipients are Triangle-based.

Through small, project-based grants, NC IDEA MICRO awards $10K in funding to startups actively moving their companies forward by validating assumptions and developing a business model. We have found that funding, paired with mentorship and guidance, early in a company’s lifecycle, can make a significant impact on future success.

SEED

$50KSingle grant, with mentorship

Growth-stage grant to help proven-concept companies scale, gain customers, and attract future investment.

Eligibility

Innovative startups with a proven concept — even if not yet profitable. Post-MICRO stage.

21 semi-finalists named from 184 applications (11.4% to semi-finalist stage). 9 of 21 are Triangle-based. Recipients announced ≈2026-05-15.

NC IDEA SEED offers early stage companies the critical funding they need to scale faster. The funds, along with mentorship and guidance, push companies forward and reduce risk associated with growing startups.

Bold Path Fellowship

$120KTwo-year, full-time program with mentorship

Two-year full-time fellowship for under-resourced founders, intended to substitute for early family-and-friends funding.

Eligibility

Individuals from under-resourced backgrounds who have earned a degree or credential, residents of Durham or the Research Triangle Region, pursuing entrepreneurship as a viable post-secondary pathway.

Five fellows named 2026-04-20: Mikal Ali (Blossoms Village), Tiffany Degbotse (EchoML), Rich Gilliam (STEM PLUG), Bilal Issifou (Unchained Inc), Ellora McTaggart (Carolina Instruments).

Next cohort cycle TBD. Program may expand to additional geographies in future years.

The Bold Path Fellowship is a two-year, full-time program that empowers individuals from under-resourced backgrounds who have earned a degree or credential to pursue entrepreneurship as a viable pathway following postsecondary completion. Making Entrepreneurship a More Accessible and Equitable Career Pathway.
