First Triangle company we've tracked in the current YC batch. Came out of a lab, not a pitch competition. Three Duke PhD/MS co-founders, building imaging hardware that's been in development since 2022.

Moment of the week
Six Wing Studios
A Durham indie game studio crowdfunded 80% of a sequel in 48 hours.
Six Wing Studios' Kickstarter for Amaru: Reimagined, a follow-up to a game with over 1M downloads, hit ~80% of its funding goal in under two days. Founder Dr. Gabe Pappalardo has a PhD in industrial-organizational psychology and built the studio around the thesis that gaming can be a legitimate self-care tool. Not the Triangle story you usually hear, and worth watching.
